CLAS Services: SCCM STANDARD Service Migration

Use the web form below to schedule a time to migrate an existing machine to the CLAS STANDARD service level (note: PREMIUM migrations are not being performed).

Prior to submitting this web form, there are a few tasks that MUST be completed before a machine will be migrated:

  • Must have ALL the latest Microsoft Updates (Critical AND Optional).
  • Microsoft Updates is different than Windows Updates, which provides updates only for the Windows OS. Office and Windows both must be up to date.
  • EXCEPTIONS: You do NOT need to install any of the following Microsoft updates at this time:
  • Office Live Add-in
  • .NET Family Update
  • If you install the Windows Desktop Search update, ensure that you prevent it from starting every time:
  • Close the toolbar
  • Right-click on the system tray item and select Exit
  • Delete the Start | All Programs | Startup item
  • Make sure that you check for updates for any updates you installed.
  • Must have Remote Desktop enabled.
  • Initiate a Remote Desktop session to the machine to check this.
  • Must have the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection installed
  • Manually uninstall the old version (including LiveUpdate), and then restart prior to installing the latest version using the CLAS AutoInstaller.
  • If you encounter errors uninstalling an older version, look at the bottom of this page: http://www.clas.uiowa.edu/it/support/Windows/index.htm for help.
  • Must be working properly and be virus free.
  • If the machine is not working properly, any problems may be compounded once it is migrated.
  • Must have the corresponding OUA group as a member of the local "Administrators" group.
  • Must have the Active Directory Description and Location fields filled in correctly.
  • If either field is empty, you will be prompted to fill them in when logging in with a TechID. It is suggested that you look at any existing information to ensure that it has been correctly entered.
  • Must ensure that the My Documents folder is redirected to the user’s H:\ drive.
  • The GPOs redirect the My Documents folder, and if it is not already redirected it will automatically copy up the data from the local location to their network space (possibly causing quota issues or logon time issues).
  • OPTIONAL: Some have experienced a beeping noise once the machine has been migrated. To resolve this, first install the latest version of JAVA using the CLAS AutoInstaller. If that does not resolve the issue, run spyware removal software to check for malicious software that may be malfunctioning.

Items a user may notice after the machine has been migrated:
* The My Documents folder is redirected.
* The startup bitmap at the CTRL+ALT+DEL screen may be different.
* The My Computer object will be renamed to the new computer name.
* The firewall may initially prevent printer sharing and may need to be adjusted.
* Anyone with a HawkID can log into a STANDARD machine.
